Harry Potter is a series of books about a character with wizard potentials. The series were created and written by J.K. Rowling. First, they were books which sold approximately 500 copies and later the books were made into a film production which gained prominence and broke all box office records. Interestingly, the series was so popular that the books were translated into sixty seven different languages. With such a record, itis safe to conclude that the Harry Potter series has captured the hearts of many.
The series tell the tale of a young wizard named Harry Potter. The story begins on a sad tone; Harry Potter is an orphan who lives in a cupboard under the stairs in the home of his Aunt and Uncle. Life has not dealt kindly with the boy because his guardians treat him badly;but Harry’s life was destined to change soon. Harry discovers that he is a wizard and began attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in order to learn how to use this magic.
His journeys are filled with adventures and with Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, his two friends accompanying him;Harry had many encounters with enchanting legendary creatures such as trolls, dragons, and werewolves. Harry soon mastered the art of wizardry and became well-known as such. He soon learns that his most powerful enemy is the wizard, Lord Voldermort who had killed his parents because they refused to use their magic for evil. His plan to kill Harry at the time of his parents’ death was unsuccessful but this had left the boy with a scar on his forehead. Harry Potter’s role now was to defeat this enemy.
The first movie serves as an introduction into the realm of wizardry; viewers are immediately and completely propelled into this fascinating realm. At the Hogwarts School Potter discovers that everything in it moves. The rooms move, the stairs and staircase move and the pictures on the walls also move and can chat with you.
The Harry Potter book series has been extremely popular so much so that, that replica of the characters are made and sold to the public. The series is not only of interest to children, adults too can be seen reading the books and they accompany their children to the movies too. It is a series which has captivated the interest of all ages.
The first books were written with the intent to target children ages 7-11 years, but those that came later are more exciting. The later books are written for the older age groups as Rowling had stated that her books were written with the intention that the readers should be able to identify themselves as in the same age group as Harry and his friends. The later books are written to target an older group.
Are you still not convinced that you should become a Harry Potter fan, still wondering why so many are fascinated regardless of their age? Well, Rowling has made it easy for readers to identify with any of the characters but also the city of London. The writer of the series opens the reader’s mind to Harry’s world of wizardry which is different from ours, but yet both exist along side each other. Entering into Harry’s realm of wizardry is not hard, you just have to be at that particular place where both worlds meet, and if you know the secret code you are immediately drawn into Diagon Alley.
Rowling’s ability to make readers identify with Harry and his friends is one of reasons behind the series fascinating success. Although bullied and mocked for her abilities, Hermione still help others and is rewarded finally when she finds true friendship and love.
Ron’s best friend is very popular; however this does not interfere with their friendship. Ron has matured with the series and eventually was able to get his girl.
Many persons can identify themselves with Potter. He has been through some rough times and has had to rise above the difficulties. He too finally found love at last.
All of us can identify with any of the characters in Harry Potter series. We may have been bullied like Hermione or had to walk behind in the shadow of popular friends or we may like Harry have been abused or had some unpleasant childhood, but we have been able to come out smiling. If you have, then that is why Harry Potter is so amazingly popular.
